Finca Bellavista

You won’t find billboards or roadside signs that lead you to Finca Bellavista…

But you will find and experience something truly unique in our little slice of paradise!

What Finca Bellavista is not:

We are not a full-service spa or a fancy hotel. You won’t find televisions or telephones in our rentals, or electricity in most for that matter. We are located in an area of Costa Rica that is removed from many of the influences of the outside world. Our neighbors and friends are indigenous families and hard-working farmers. The nearest town (1.5 miles away) contains a school, a church, a pulperia, a bus stop, a handful of houses, and of course, a soccer field. That’s it. No souvenir shops, no mini-malls, and no rowdy bars. If that’s what you are looking for, you won’t find it in this neck of the woods!

Rather than focus on what we don’t have here at Finca Bellavista, we would like for future guests to focus on what we DO have!

What Finca Bellavista is:

Finca Bellavista is a residential treehouse community that is in its formative years. We are a rustic, yet comfortable, retreat off the beaten path where guests can explore the natural wonders of the Costa Rican rainforest and enjoy what we like to call ‘treetop Pura Vida’. This is a wild place, therefore, you might see and hear nature in all its glory, and experience more culture and community interaction than in the more touristy areas of this magnificent country.

Finca Bellavista is a special place that takes some time and effort to explore; therefore, each of our rentals has a two-night minimum in order to fully enjoy the beauty and offerings here.

Each rental includes access to Finca Bellavista’s unique community assets, such as the rivers, swimming holes, waterfalls, hiking trails, and the base camp’s amenities. These amenities include a parking area, an open-air rancho (a great spot to enjoy yoga, hammock time or relaxing with a view of the Fila Cruces), a community kitchen and dining area, a bath house, and a barbecue lounge. High-speed satellite WIFI is also available for a per hour fee, when electricity and the weather allow. There is a book swap and there are several board games available for guests to use. Because we are in our infancy as a project, there is usually work being done, which can be noisy during work days (Tuesday through Friday). This is our home, as well as others, therefore we ask and expect visitors to respect our owners, neighbors and their spaces accordingly. Though we keep our location somewhat of a secret from the outside world, we are more than happy to open our doors to you since you found us! Detailed directions will be sent to you upon making a reservation. Please note that 4-wheel drive is recommended on the road leading to Finca Bellavista.

tree houses

Treehouses available for rent
When we say treehouse, we mean treehouse! The following rentals are arboreal in nature and provide a one-of-a-kind place to experience treetop Pura Vida not found anywhere else on planet Earth. Remember, treehouses are like snowflakes… no two are alike. Therefore, it is important to note the descriptions of each to ensure that your party will be accommodated to your desired extent.

El Castillo Mastate is a sight to behold and is truly one of the architectural wonders of the arboreal world! The mystical master bedroom suite (with half-bath) is an octagonal dwelling 90 feet off the forest floor in a giant Mastate tree. With a birds-eye view of the canopy, this treehome is the perfect perch for birdwatchers and those that enjoy observing wildlife unobstructed. An 80-foot-long suspension bridge connects the treetop suite to a stilt-built casita which sits atop a knoll on the forest floor. The casita houses amenities such as a full kitchen, dining and lounge area and a full bathroom. Hardwood bamboo flooring, custom tile finishes and bright skylights bring comfort and livability to this home. This treehome is en route to “La Punta”, a hiking trail within Finca Bellavista that has vistas of the Piedras Blancas region.

This treehouse sleeps 4 (there is a queen-size bed in the master bedroom suite and a full-sized futon couch in the living area), has minimal solar-powered electricity, and the kitchen includes a stovetop/oven and a refrigerator.

*Please note that this rental is a 10-15 minute hike from the community’s base camp and parking area*

Mis Ojos Miran la Catarata is Finca Bellavista’s model treehome and offers stunning, river, waterfall and cliff views. This two-level casita is perched in a trio of trees in the Rio Bellavista corridor and offers a simple and comfortable place to unwind within the wonders of the rainforest. The main level of this treehome has a lounge area, kitchenette and balcony. The second level has a bedroom, reading nook, another balcony and bathroom (featuring an outdoor shower with views of the waterfall). This treehouse also has a terrestrial dining gazebo and hammock lounge, and is on a trail that leads to a crystal clear swimming hole on Rio Bellavista.

This treehouse sleeps 4 (there is a full-sized bed in the bedroom, and a full-sized futon in the first level lounge area). Though Mis Ojos currently does not have electricity, candles and lanterns provide a rustic yet romantic ambiance in the evenings. The kitchen stove is propane, and there is currently no refrigeration.

*Please note that this rental is a 10-15 minute hike from the community’s base camp and parking area*

Cabinas

Cabinas (non-arboreal rentals) available for rent
The following cabinas are stilt-built, terrestrial dwellings. Again, it is important to note the descriptions of each to ensure that your party will be accommodated to your desired extent.

Cabina del Bosque is a cozy one-bedroom “jungalow” that is laid out similarly to a studio apartment. The beauty in this home lies in its simplicity and the delicate and inviting artistic touches of carved wood on the front veranda. This cabina has its own bathroom and kitchenette for those seeking more privacy and solitude than the cabinas at base camp.

This cabina currently has no electricity, so candles and lanterns provide a rustic yet romantic ambiance in the evenings. The kitchenette has a propane stove, and there is currently no refrigeration.

*This cabina is 5-10 minute walk from the community’s base camp*

Please note that additional persons in any rental (treehouse or cabina) will be charged a fee of $25 per person/per night. Make plans to arrive at the finca before dark (which comes early year-round in Costa Rica). The hike to a treehouse, for example, can be slippery, and is best negotiated during daytime hours. (We cannot accommodate arrivals to the treehouses after dark, and available accommodations will be substituted.) Luggage porters can be arranged to carry items to and from the treehouses for a per-bag fee. A credit card number is necessary at the time of booking to secure your reservation. 50% of a reservation is non-refundable upon booking.

If your rental does not have a kitchen, there is a communal kitchen available at the community center. Please bring food with you to prepare during your visit, or make arrangements through us to have your meals prepared for you. These meals are not free, and we need advanced notice if we are purchasing and preparing meals for your party. Meals are typical Costa Rican fare, so if you require special foods or needs for your diet, you will need to bring them with you. If you want beer and alcohol, please bring it with you. Because we are currently operating on a limited electrical supply, refrigeration space is limited and items that you want kept cool should be in your own cooler.

We do not have a telephone. Please make necessary phone calls, travel and transportation arrangements prior to your arrival. Some cellular service is available on the hills surrounding FBV, but is not very reliable. WIFI is available for 1500 colones per half hour, only when weather and electricity allow.

Though we are well equipped for simple living, we suggest bringing several items to make your stay here more enjoyable.

-headlamp and/or flashlight and batteries to power it (an absolute necessity)
-waterproof sunblock
-bugspray
-tall rubber boots or close-toed shoes
-bathing suit
-brimmed hat
-sunglasses
-a book to relax with (we also have book swap shelves)
-a sense of adventure
