"This most recent gallery of photos from Finca Bellavista highlights some of the exciting advances currently underway at the Finca. For a week or so, we spent a great deal of time exploring the upper realm of the rainforest canopy. Led by FBV general manager and zip line/canopy platform specialist, Owen Hyams, we were able to get some amazing bird’s eye views around the property. GPS waypoints were taken around the property for locations and routing of the zip line/canopy platform transportation system around the Finca, as well as measurements for the first two arboreal dwellings on the property (Look for the new tree houses to be available as Open Houses in early ’08).
Joining us in exploring the canopy of FBV was Roderick Romero, a top tree house designer (visit www.romerostudios.com for examples of his amazing work), who will be designing and constructing the first arboreal dwellings at the Finca in early ’08. We also had one of the top botanists in the country taking an inventory of dozens of the most prominent tree species on the property in order to identify the best host trees for our arboreal dwellings. We were also visited by a Canadian TV crew who spent a few days with us recording an HD feature on FBV for a documentary on sustainable development in the tropics. Stay tuned for the documentary’s release date.
And, finally, what visit to FBV would be complete without spending quality time with the schoolchildren of the nearby village of Florida. After teaching some of the younger students a lesson in sustainability (and English), Roderick and I took part in yet another installment of young Tico kids abusing old gringo men on the village soccer field… Always an amusing spectacle for the elders of the community, who once again gathered around the field to cheer the kids on!”
Until next time!
Pura vida~
